Laguna Bacalar has a mixture of fresh and salt
water.

Sian Ka'an was designated as a protected natural
reserve in 1986.

The reserve is comprised of 1.3 million acres,
including marshes, lagoons, and beaches.

Many of the Sian Ka'an sand dunes are covered
with various types of vegetation.

Approximately only one thousand people live in
this area, mostly fishermen.
